SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The cost of untreated mental illness is more than $100 billion dollars annually in the United States. Unnecessary disability, unemployment, substance abuse, homelessness, inappropriate incarceration, suicide and wasted lives are the result of untreated mental illness. Because of those staggering consequences, presenting sponsors, Dixon Financial Services, Inc. and John Muir Behavioral Health and other civic-minded corporations have partnered with the National Alliance On Mental Illness, NAMI to take action and you can too!
Join the volunteers on Saturday, May 31 at Golden Gate Speedway Meadow for the “Campaign for the Mind” 5K Walk to raise awareness about our country's need for a world-class treatment and recovery system for people with mental illnesses and money to maintain the free support and education services offered locally by the NAMI. Free NAMI services include: Advocacy, Peer Support Groups and Education, Family Support Groups and Education, Anti-Stigma Information and Provider Education among others.

The NAMI “Campaign for the Mind” 5K Walk starts at 9:30 am with free registration at Speedway Meadow in Golden Gate Park. “Day of” registrants accepted. The walk begins at 11 a.m. Open Ceremonies begin with award winning documentary filmmaker, Katie Cadigan, whose “When Medicine Got It Wrong” gives insight to the roots of NAMI that began in San Mateo County. Children under 18 are welcome with a guardian.
