"The Federal Reserve isn’t doing much to stand in and help the homeowners."

ACORN is much more than just "advocates for homeowners" as they have their fingers in lots of different battles, but they are primarily proponents of a real "living wage" for workers in the US. Interesting how all these grassroots groups are beginning to stand up and make their voices heard, isn't it? Advocates for homeowners protest at Federal Reserve

Security was on-guard after members of the local chapter of ACORN Housing began protesting in front of Nashville’s Federal Reserve building on Rosa Parks Boulevard. A spokesman for the group says they’re pushing for the Federal Reserve to “increase regulation of the banking industry to end predatory loans.”

The nation-wide organization encouraged all of its chapters across the country to protest at their local Federal Reserve buildings Thursday afternoon. Eight members from the Nashville chapter held large signs hoping to get the attention of passers-by and Federal Reserve officials getting off work.

“The Federal Reserve isn’t doing much to stand in and help the homeowners. The Nashville Federal Reserve and local politicians are unresponsive,” said Christian Thomas, member of ACORN Housing. The Nashville ACORN office has only been open for four months. It offers free foreclosure mediation where homeowners can receive counseling. Members of the chapter will also contact the lending companies and try to negotiate new payment plans for homeowners. Contact Harriet Vaughan at 248-8048 or hvaughan@tennessean.com.
