NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Volunteers at the Nashville Rescue Mission were on a mission to feed the homeless on Christmas Day.

Almost 1,000 people without a home for the holidays enjoyed a warm meal at the rescue mission.

The amount of homeless women and children is reportedly on the rise. There were about 30 percent more that were fed Thursday.

"I'd be lying if I said I didn't cry because we're in a homeless shelter, but - you know, we're making it," said Marianne Ford.

Officials said there are more than 1,500 homeless people in Nashville.

The mission operates almost solely on donated food and contributions.
