THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NASHVILLE HAS ISSUED AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT THURSDAY. THE HEAT ADVISORY IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.
* HEAT INDEX READINGS WILL RANGE FROM 107 TO 115 DEGREES THIS AFTERNOON.
* IMPACTS: DANGEROUS HEAT LEVELS WILL OCCUR THROUGH THURSDAY FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO MUST BE OUTDOORS. YOUNG CHILDREN...ELDERLY PEOPLE...THOSE WITH ILLNESSES OR HEART CONDITIONS...AND THOSE WHO WORK OR PLAY OUTDOORS ARE MOST AT RISK.

Cooling centers in the area are going to be busy.....
NASHVILLE, TN - All 22 Metro Parks and Recreation community and recreation centers are serving as cooling centers during the recent heat wave.
The buildings will be opened longer Thursday, Friday, Saturday and next week.
Metro Parks and Recreation Director Roy Wilson said anyone may visit the centers to sit awhile or read a book or simply to cool down. Wilson said administrators decided to extend hours at the centers and offer water to those who need to just come in and cool off.
Metro is aiming the cooling center projects at people who must spend a lot of their days working outside.
Wilson said the extended hours will be in effect as long as the temperatures are at least 95 degrees.
East Park Community Center, Hadley Community Center and Hartman Community Center will be open from 6 a.m. - 8 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays.
The other 19 neighborhood centers will operate 6 a.m. - 8 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays.
