Cancer Threatens Another Family Member....

Those close to me know that I am currently dealing with a personal tragedy that has wreaked havoc on the lives of my wife and her family. Many who read this blog will remember that my brother in law John, my wife Dorothy's brother, passed away last year after battling Hepatitis C and Aids. It was the first death my wife's family has really had to deal with in their immediate family. Dorothy is the oldest sister of four siblings; John, Terry and Ray. After John died, the family all tried to get back to normal, but a lump on Terry's breast discovered just a couple of months after John's funeral threw us all into panic mode. To make a long and painful story tolerable, let me just say that although Terry opted for a double mastectomy, a full body MRI done some time after that surgery discovered that the cancer had metastasized and spread to her brain. Months of Chemo and full brain radiation did little to stop the cancer and her doctor told her last week that the only treatment options left were "experiemental." She has opted not to take any more treatments. If she makes it to Thanksgiving, I'll be surprised. Brain cancer also killed my mother in 1996. I know what the family is going through and there isn't a damned thing any of us can do but wait....
