While news like this provides me with job security for some time to come, I'd gladly give up my job in a second if it meant the end to homelessness in our country.

Organization Offers Help To Avoid Foreclosure

BRENTWOOD, Tenn.- Tough times are continually having and impact on the housing market. Local, homeowners are feeling the pinch. But there are new resources available that can help.

One of the hardest hit areas in the mid-state has been Williamson County. The county has seen a 150-percent increase in home foreclosures from this time last year.

Saturday afternoon GAP Community Development held a Housing Expo as an effort to give homeowners a bit of education on how to prevent a foreclosure. The organization works with Williamson County families struggling to keep their homes. Administrators with the program said a tough economy, plus a rocky job market, has equaled a soaring foreclosure rate.

"If they get it on the front end 9 times out of 10 they will not go into foreclosure. and if they do go into foreclosure they will know exactly what to do as far was home buyers education or how to maintain and keep they're home," said Teresa Burns with the GAP Community Development.

Housing experts said a major cause for the rising foreclosure rate is job loss. In fact, many of the individuals being assisted by the GAP Community Development center are trying to overcome just that.

Administrators with the program said unfortunately by the time many people come for help it's too late and they have no chance of keeping their home. They said that's why it is important to address the problem immediately.
