Report: More Nashville home sellers facing losing proposition

Nearly one in five home sellers in the Nashville area in the second quarter sold their homes for less than what they paid for them, according to a new report by Zillow.com.

Some real estate agents say that number seems too high, but others say since foreclosures are in the mix, it could be right-on.

Nationally, 32.7 percent of homes -- or one in three in the second quarter -- were sold for a loss, according to Zillow. Nashville's percentage is 18.9 percent, much lower than nearby cities such as Atlanta, where the percentage is 33 percent, Memphis at 43.8 percent or Charlotte at 20.9 percent.

"On all of these numbers, Nashville is performing substantially better than the national number and better than the bubble markets," says Amy Bohutinsky, vice president of communications at Zillow.
