'Angels in the Night visit homeless shelters across Canada with truckloads of supplies' Now in sixth year, program has raised over $1 million. VANCOUVER, Dec. 11 /CNW/ - Today and into the night, teams of Angels in the Night volunteers are personally delivering over $275,000 of newly-purchased clothing and supplies to 89 homeless shelters in 13 Canadian cities. Mortgage consultants at Invis, along with their friends, families and business partners, have been raising money for The Salvation Army in support of Angels in the Night. Funds raised this year have put the cumulative total, since the program began in 2002, over the million-dollar mark. "The Salvation Army is very pleased to once again be a recipient of the hard work of the volunteers who make up the Angels in the Night" said Major Gordon Armstrong of the Salvation Army Divisional Headquarters, "our shelters, particularly in the Christmas season really need all the help they can get." For those who call the street their home this winter, the folks at Invis join the Salvation Army in really making a difference. Shelter use is rising, and with winter temperatures dipping, these supplies are needed all the more. According to a 2007 Statistics Canada report, residential shelters, including homeless shelters, provided care for 235,916 residents, a 2.3 per cent increase from the year before. "Homelessness is an unfortunate reality for many," says Major Armstrong, "Angels in the Night is a great example of a group of professionals banding together to lend a hand. Their enthusiasm is wonderful to see this holiday season." This year, Angels in the Night and The Salvation Army invite members of the media to lend a hand as volunteers take to the streets to help again this year. Find them at the Army & Navy Store (loading bay on west side) 36 West Cordova Street - 6:00pm this evening.
