HPRP Grant Winners Will Be Public Soon, But An Issue Has Arisen...

At this point, there are several agencies I've spoken with - that shall remain nameless at the moment - who are disturbed, to put it lightly, that although they've received notification that they've been awarded the HPRP grant, the grant award amount was seriously slashed BUT the fine folks at HUD asked that the agencies serve the same number of people they originally listed when they filled out the grant criteria.

Here's what I mean: if you requested...oh, say $500,000 in your original proposal and stated that with this amount, you'd be able to serve 200 people, HUD has sent you a response stating that they'll give you $200,000 but you must still serve the 200 people you originally stated you'd serve.

Put another way, it'd be like telling you today that you were going to receive a 70 percent pay-cut but you'd still be required to continue doing exactly what you were doing when you were earning your full salary or hourly wage.

Ahem.

Not sure how this is gonna pan out but I do know that there are some real unhappy service providers in the Nashville area at the moment.  I'm hoping HUD see's the problems with this approach before the good folks of Nashville tell em"thanks, but no thanks" to the money.

You have to understand here; the agencies in this part of the region are already understaffed, overwhelmed and running on shoestrings, for the most part, thanks to a decade of ruthless budget cuts for programs and services that assist the poor and the homeless.   They can't do much more with nothing; they're already rolling with their backs against a wall that's been moved already......
