SAN DIEGO – Prosecutors did not file charges Thursday against a man suspected of beating a homeless amputee to death with a crutch in downtown San Diego.
Ivy was arrested about 3 p.m. Tuesday on E Street near Eighth Avenue in connection with the death of Gregary Willis, 41. Further investigation is needed to determine whether Ross Ivy, 27, will be charged with murder, said Paul Levikow, a spokesman for the District Attorney's Office.
Witnesses told police that Willis and Ivy were arguing on F Street near Eighth Avenue just before midnight. They fought, and Ivy picked up Willis' crutch and hit him with it, police said.
Willis died at a trauma center.
