Ex-cop's trial date in homeless Mt. Kisco immigrant's death could be set this month
WHITE PLAINS - The case of a former Mount Kisco police officer accused of killing homeless immigrant Rene Javier Perez last year could be ready for a trial date to be set by the end of the month.
George Bubaris, 31, of South Salem, was one of three police officers to respond to Perez' drunken 911 call from a local laundry the night of April 28, less than an hour before the 42-year-old Guatemalan man was found fatally injured on the side of a country road in Bedford.
Bubaris is accused of dumping him there and inflicting those injuries.
Westchester County Assistant District Attorneys James McCarty and Perry Perrone said in court today that the county laboratory was performing additional work that they expected to be finished in two to three weeks.
State Supreme Court Justice Richard A. Molea adjourned the case to April 24.
"I think the case is essentially ready for trial," said Bubaris' lawyer, Andrew Quinn.
