While I've never been impressed with Ms. Couric's jounalistic style or prowess, anytime a Homeless advocate receives national attention it's a good thing....
Katie Couric features homeless advocate Diane Nilan tonight
After years pushing the country to pay attention to homeless children, longtime Aurora advocate Diane Nilan will grab a few minutes of the national spotlight tonight from CBS news anchor Katie Couric.
CBS crews interviewed Nilan in DeKalb upon her return to the Fox Valley after a year and five months on the road filming a documentary on homeless children. CBS also followed her and two of the kids in her documentary to Washington, D.C., this year to push Congress for laws to better protect homeless children.
Nilan filmed the short documentary from November 2005 to last June while she traveled in an RV through 17 states. It originally was intended as an instructional video to teach educators about the laws concerning homeless children in schools. But her project has also gained the attention of a Northern Illinois University professor, a television production company, and now, CBS.
The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric airs tonight at 5:30 p.m.
